On the 9th of October 2019, the Turkish state opened a war of occupation on the area from Serekaniye (Ras al-Ayn) to Gire Spi (Tal Abiad), in Northern and Eastern Syria. Now this area has been occupied by Turkey for almost two years. The attacks have not only been the reason for the fleeing of hundreds of thousands of people. At the same time, a place where there was democracy, women’s rights and religious freedom was destroyed.
This report from Kongra Star places these attacks in a political and historical context. It also reports on the current situation in the occupied territories, because the attacks on the population are by no means over, but the violent occupation policy continues. It is all the more important that information about the occupation is made public and that the condition of Serekaniye and Gire Spi is not normalised.
