Revolutionary greetings from Rojava, North East Syria
Dear friends,
The situation is serious, for the past few days, new forces have been taking control of Syria. Forces that will turn into nothing less than the Taliban or the AKP in the coming years, starting out moderate and then becoming more and more fascist.
While the world is busy debating Syria’s political transition, Turkey has begun a long-prepared invasion of Rojava. Jihadist ground forces and Turkish air power are working together in attacking the cities of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North East Syria. But the local self defense forces have been preparing for a situation like this for a long time and are using new urban warfare tactics and technologies. There are thousands currently fighting and defending the revolution in Rojava.
10 years ago today, we witnessed the battle of Kobane and the victory of the YPG and YPJ over IS. Today, the same forces are facing each other in Kobane.
It is crystal clear to the people here in Rojava: the militias that are acting in Turkey’s interests are IS. They might have changed their look but they are using the same methods under the same ideology with the same goal.
Life under IS was brutal, especially for women. And this brutality is happening again, it will only worsen if we dont stop them. The historic events of Kobane has changed the world and us. And today, Kobane is in danger, Rojava is in danger!
The message that will lead us to success in this struggle was sent to us by Abdullah Öcalan from his prison cell in Imrali:
“Trust in your strength“,
In this current situation, we can all play our part. We will all defend the revolution of Rojava together. It is up to all of us. The world must stand still, we must make the impossible possible. Everyone in their own way, everyone with their own imagination, power, can do something. Every contact, every association, every person – we will spark the revolution in everyone today.
We are in an extraordinary situation.
It is mid-December, Christmas is just around the corner and the command center in Ankara is preparing to occupy Rojava and turn it into a bloodbath. Another war against the Kurds has begun. Another war against all the peoples of the region, who have seen so much suffering and who after already so many lives sacrificed, are once again facing the threat of genocide. They gave 15,000 martyrs in the fight against IS and 10 years later Turkey wants to take revenge for their victory in Kobane.
This ethnic cleansing has already begun on December 1st, when 200,000 internally displaced persons, the former population of Afrin, were driven out of their refugee camps in Shehba by Turkish mercenaries. In their renewed flight, they experienced the same unimaginable suffering as the Yazidis in Shengal in 2014 as a result of the IS attack. Then, as now, the areas of self-administration in north-east Syria are the only safe haven for people on the run. But this safe haven is now also under threat.
The danger is immediate and it is great.
Because an attack on Kurdistan is, as always, not just an attack by Turkey, but global hegemonic forces. Just as German poison gas was used in Halabja and German tanks in Afrin – when international arms companies supply Turkey, when NATO gives the green light for these massacres, then all the countries in the belly of the capitalist beast are now complicit in this heinous war.
As much as the forces attacking Rojava are acting internationally, we too must act internationally.
As much as the forces attacking us are organized, we too must organize ourselves.
Those who carry out the new attacks on Kurdistan will not stop for Christmas they will not rest.
And in order to successfully defend Kurdistan together, we too must not rest
As democratic forces from across the world, our place in this struggle is shoulder to shoulder with our friends in Rojava.
There is so much we can all do. We can make a huge difference, Just as we are all part of something greater than ourselves.
The worldwide significance of Rojava is greater than we can comprehend. Rojava is hope. We are hope. We are fighting together and Whatever will come, it will be great.
