The third week of global action has just ended, in which dozens of women’s organizations around the world took to the streets to support the resistance of Tishreen dam and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the liberation of the city of Kobanê from Daesh occupation.
In fact, the escalation of war in Northeast Syria has made the celebration of the anniversary extremely relevant because today the democratic forces are once again called upon to defend Kobanê as the heart of the democratic revolution in Rojava, but today the war front is not between the streets and buildings of the city but on Tishreen dam, where since January 8 a historical resistance has been carried out that has as its vanguard the struggle of the people of the entire Autonomous Democratic Administration. The protest for peace that civilians have been carrying out for weeks despite the continuous bombings of the Turkish state, which has already caused 20 martyrs and more than a hundred wounded, is a flame of hope and resistance in this dark period for Syria and for the whole Middle East. It is the spirit of these people, who are ready to sacrifice everything in the struggle to defend their territory, water, energy and life in the region that has prompted dozens of organizations to support the resistance in Tishreen and to mobilize against Turkey’s air strikes.
Mobilizing in defense of Kobanê, the Tishreen dam and the Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria means fighting all over the world, especially in Europe and NATO countries, against the arms industry which allows Turkey to continue bombing Rojava. The arms industry is a plague that oppresses European societies because it means industrial conversion not for the needs of society, but for the interest of global capital and the imperialist policies of NATO. Fighting against the arms industry means fighting for peace and democracy in Europe and the Middle East, it means fighting for the freedom of society and for the self-determination of peoples.
Because of this, dozens of demonstrations, rallies, meetings, public debates and conferences have been organized this week, showing that solidarity between peoples and internationalism are our strongest weapons against imperialism.

In Italy, demonstrations were organized in Genoa, Milan and Como organized by Rete Jin and Defend Kurdistan Italia. In addition, actions were organized by the Social Centers of the North East in Bologna and Venice where banners were hung in solidarity with the resistance of Tishreen and Kobanê. In Pisa and Rome, the feminist movement Non Una di Meno organized debates about the women’s revolution in Rojava and to discuss the current political situation in Syria. In Catania, the network in solidarity with the Kurdish people organized an entire day of initiatives against the Turkish bombing of the Tishreen dam which ended with the screening of the film “Kobanê”. In addition, a conference was held in Rome for the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Kobanê, for a new internationalism and for the release of Abdullah Öcalan.
In France, organizations in solidarity with Rojava, such as the Serhildan network and the Kurdish women’s movement, organized demonstrations in Paris, Marseille, Reims and Bordeux to celebrate the liberation of Kobanê and to denounce Turkey’s bombing of Rojava’s resistance against SNA mercenaries. In addition, banners with the slogan “Intifada – Serhildan” were displayed in Brussels in the city march in solidarity with the Palestinian people to demonstrate the internationalist friendship between the Kurdish and Palestinian people in the struggle against US and Israeli imperialism.

In Germany, on the other hand, the Defend Kurdistan network, Women Defend Rojava, Gemeinsam Kämpfen, Young Internationalist Women and other internationalist groups organized various demonstrations in Berlin, Hanover, Leipzig, Kiel and Hamburg. A banner was hung in Freiburg calling for a democratic solution for the Kurdish people.

In Barcelona and Valencia two demonstrations were organized by the Defend Kurdistan Katalunya network, while in England several initiatives were organized in Leeds and Manchester by the Kurdistan Solidarity Network.

In addition, the women friends of the German Jineolojî committee and the comrades of the Feministas del Abya Yala network made videos of their performances and actions in solidarity with the YPJ fighters and the women’s revolution of Rojava.
