The last week of the Global Action Month was all around the Freedom of press and reporting the truth. False information is widely spread in times of war and we see a special war being fought around pictures and information. The Turkish state is using and spreading false information and it has become more important than ever to investigate and report on it.
Although being an international war crime, journalists are continuously being killed by imperialistic politics of states all over the world. In the Middle East these imperialistic politics by mainly Turkey, Iran and Israel are also resulting in killings and imprisonments of many journalists. In 2024 alone, 123 journalists were killed, 16 of which were women. 3 Kurdish women journalists were killed this year, Cihan Bilgin who reported from Tishreen Dam was killed by a Turkish drone strike on December 19th and

Over past week, activists connected the struggle for truth with the defence of Tishreen Dam showing that the whole world must look at the society in Rojava rising up and defending the dam.

Friends from WDR did an action in Leipzig in Front off the Tower of the local press ” MDR – Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk”.
Videos were shown from the attacks and the resistance at Tishreen Dam and an Interview of Lea Bunse, a German activist who was recently injured by a drone strike at Tishreen Dam.
They also handed out leaflets and talked with many people about the detention of journalists in all parts of Kurdistan and gave an overall criticism of the German media.

On the 29th friends from Women Defend Rojava and the internationalist youth were disturbing an election campaign event in Potsdam from Anna-Lena Baerbock, the current foreign policy from the opportunist “Green” Party.
They had signs, shouted slogans and handed out flyers to people about the anti-feminist foreign policy and the current impact for women in Syria and in DAANES.

Also in Hanover the friends from Women Defend Rojava made an action on the 30th .
With the left Party in Hanover they wrote together a resolution condemning the Turkish war of aggression and the City council discussed it but it was not accepted. Next time it will be tried again with the support of the Green Party.

In Cologne was an action also on the 30th. Friends from “Gemeinsam Kämpfen” were showing a video, where a famous journalist was making a news broadcast about the current attacks on Tishreen Dam.
The friends were screening it on the local news tower of “WDR – Westdeutscher Rundfunk”.
With this action they have drawn attention to the fact that this news is ignored by the press, despite its importance, so our friends decided to publicise it themselves!

In Medellin Colombia, Mujeres Tejiendo el Futuro organised a day of action to mark the end of their Operation Siriri campaign across Colombia. There was a discussion on the strength of mothers who resist across the middle east and how we can take inspiration from their strength. There was also a film viewing and embroidery of flowers on hankerchiefs.
