Despite the ongoing efforts of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful solution, the transitional government of HTŞ in Syria has launched a brutal attack on our people and the values we stand for. This attack targets not only the Kurdish existence but also the achievements and hopes we have built together.
Last year, massacres occurred against the Alawite and Druze communities. At the beginning of this year, violence escalated again, targeting the Kurdish population and the achievements of the Rojava Revolution. Many people were killed, tens of thousands displaced or abducted, and fighters were brutally tortured. Statues and symbols of our people, especially of women, were deliberately attacked – an attempt to destroy dignity, memory, and resistance.
The attacks come from HTŞ and allied groups, which originate from the structures of the so-called “Islamic State.” Many of their fighters and leaders come directly from IS ranks. The organization, support, and political backing of these jihadist forces are provided by the Turkish state. This attack is part of a deliberate plan aimed at destroying unity, solidarity, and brotherhood, while promoting division, fear, and nationalism.
This plan directly targets the achievements of the Rojava Revolution and the women’s revolution. The world knows that people fought for freedom, equality, and democracy during the Arab Spring, in Rojava, and today in Iran. Yet, in countries like Afghanistan and Syria, forces like the Taliban and HTŞ have been strengthened again – enemies of women, peoples, and all democratic values.
In these attacks, children, the elderly, women, and men are equally targeted. HTŞ attacks to break the will of the peoples and the resistance of women. They reject the achievements of Rojava and, in revenge, attack peoples, women, and religious communities in the region.
We state clearly: defending North and East Syria is defending humanity and the women’s revolution. We call on all international organizations to take a clear stand against the crimes of HTŞ. For years, peoples and women have defended the achievements of the Rojava Revolution; today, these attacks can only be repelled through solidarity, collective organization, and united resistance.
Women’s organizations know the crimes of IS from firsthand experience. The common struggle must be intensified – the only way to defeat these attacks is through the unity of peoples, women, and nations.
Any participation of HTŞ or Colani in a future Syrian administration is unacceptable. This jihadist force threatens the future of a free, democratic, and secular Syria. We call on the world to raise its voice against this dark and destructive force and to heed the demands of the peoples and women.
Finally, our people must continue their struggle to protect the achievements of the revolution. Rojava is Kurdistan – a place of pride and collective dignity. All women and peoples must participate in this resistance to secure and realize their rights to freedom, equality, and democracy.
