Listen here to the daily update:
Dear friends,
we send you this message from Rojava, a red, Mediterranean land, wounded by state bombs and sewn up by the skilled hands of elderly mothers. We are writing to you from the black day, February 15th, black because it is the day when the power stole the light that led a people in the revolution, by kidnapping the Kurdish leader, Abdullah Öcalan and locked him up in the prison island of Imrali.
The United States, Turkey, Israel, Britain: they have tried to extinguish the hope of a democratic solution for the peoples of the Middle East, to continue to play in their dirty interests. On February 15, it was an international conspiracy that captured Öcalan, and on January 6, with the start of the war in Rojava and Northeast Syria, we witnessed something similar again.
We want the ideological nature of this war to be clear: the land in which the proposal of a democratic nation, a matria of colors and of the free coexistence of peoples which had become reality, has been attacked. It was a second February 15, in which the international powers once again made alliances against the system of self-government of the peoples, against the women’s revolution.
ISIS, the pro-Turkish mercenaries, the forces of the Syrian transitional government. They represent the dominant patriarchal mentality of this century, which attacks with terrible violence against women, women who were making an entire region sprout with new hope.
They want to destroy women’s awareness of their revolutionary strength, but it is an awareness that has taken root in this land. To act and organize against this war is to choose which side of history to be on, it is to choose the path of organized society and not of the state, the path that marks the historical path of women’s resistance.
For 27 years, every day locked up in a high-solitary prison, Abdullah Öcalan has resisted as only a profoundly free individual can do. That is why he is the leader of society, that is why they have not been able to steal the light of hope of the peoples. Fascism does not stop at the frontiers of states, the imperialist powers come to an agreement, bind themselves to each other in opportunistic agreements and create plots to sign the death of the vital force of the peoples. However, society also knows no borders and no boundaries and knows in depth the perspective of unity in differences, resistance and organization. And it is our responsibility to put into practice an internationalism of the peoples against the violence of these hegemonic powers.
With the insistence on humanity, Abdullah Öcalan now still represents the hope and the possibility of victory and success in the struggle. As internationalists we call in chorus with this land for his urgent release because Öcalan’s physical freedom is the possibility of a political and democratic solution for Syria as much as for the entire Middle East. They will not steal the light of the peoples, They will not stop the women’s revolution.
