The education system in Rojava

In Rojava, which for years had been subject to the Syrian regime’s assimilationist policies, one of the major changes brought about by the revolution was the recognition of Kurdish and Assyrian, alongside Arabic, as official languages in institutions and as languages of instruction in the education system. Now, the Syrian Transitional Government wants to reduce Kurdish lessons to two hours a week. Hannan Hussein, from the Teachers’ Union, explains it.
